When a drive fails, your data isn't always lost.

We recover data from failed and damaged storage devices for businesses and home users across Kingston and Eastern Ontario. The evaluation is free, so you know what can be recovered before you spend anything.

  • Free evaluation. No data, no fee.
  • Same-day diagnostic available.
  • Local Kingston team since 2001.
What We Recover

Have lost data? Here's how Acadian helps.

If it stores data and it stopped working, bring it in. We recover everything from a single laptop drive to enterprise RAID arrays and SSDs that other shops wont help with.

Hard drives

Desktop, laptop and external USB drives that click, grind or will not spin up, plus drives that stopped being recognized. Head crashes, seized motors, failed circuit boards and firmware faults are all potentially recoverable.

SSDs, NVMe and flash

Solid state and NVMe drives that stopped being detected, locked up or returned corrupted data. We handle controller and NAND-level failures that some labs wont help with.

RAID, NAS and servers

Failed RAID arrays, degraded Synology and QNAP boxes and Dell or HP servers that will not rebuild, including VMware and Hyper-V volumes. Make sure all disks are present in the system.

How It Works

We Get You Your Files Back

Stop using the device

The moment the data cannot be accessed, power down and unplug. Writing anything new, or running a recovery app you found online, can overwrite the files we are trying to save.

Call us before you try anything

Free evaluation

Bring us your device at our Kingston office. We'll review the drive state and let you know what data can be recovered and the costs involved. Same day diagnostics are available so you get your answers quickly.

No charge to find out

We recover your data

Often recovery is not related to hardware failure and we can recover your data right away. If clean room work is required, we'll get you a quote and manage the specialty recovery lab for you.

Clean room recovery options

You only pay if it works

If your data is recoverable, you get it right away on a new drive or secure file transfer. If a clean-room recovery does not succeed, your deposit is refunded in full and you are presented options for any potential next steps.

Device Stopped Working?
Do this Now to Avoid Damage

The first few minutes matter. The wrong move can turn a recoverable drive into a lost one. When in doubt, power it down and call us.

  • Stop using the device. Do not save anything new to it.
  • Do not run recovery apps you found online. They often overwrite the files you want.
  • Do not open the drive or put it in the freezer. This can cause more damage.
  • Do not keep rebooting a failing drive. Every spin-up risks permanent data loss.
  • If a RAID array or NAS fails, do not force it back online or run a rebuild. One wrong move can corrupt the parity data and lose the whole array.

Why Acadian

We're Your Local Data Recovery Team

No data, no fee

The evaluation is free and many drives are a quick in-house fix. When a recovery needs the clean-room lab, you approve the price up front as a deposit. If we cannot get your data back, that deposit is refunded in full. The expensive part of recovery carries no risk for you.

One local team, start to finish

We recover what we can in house at our Kingston office. When a drive needs a clean room, we handle the specialist lab for you and stay your single point of contact. No faceless mail-in service, no chasing an 800 number.

Doing this since 2001

We have recovered data for businesses and home users across Kingston and Eastern Ontario for more than two decades. We're a team of real people who answer the phone, not a call centre reading a script.

"I am a mechanical designer and my D drive disappeared with all of my work. Within an hour Acadian had told me the drive was fried and they were confident they could recover my files. They replaced it with a new SSD with everything on it, all in a day at a very reasonable price. I picked up right where I left off, like it never happened."

Data Recovery FAQ

01 What does the free evaluation include?
We diagnose the device, tell you what can be recovered and give you the cost before any work starts. There is no charge for the evaluation itself. For urgent jobs we offer a same-day diagnostic so you are not left waiting to find out where you stand.
02 What happens if you can't recover my data?
You are not out the recovery cost. For clean-room jobs we quote the price up front and take it as a deposit. If we cannot recover your files, the deposit is refunded in full and we return or securely destroy the drive, whichever you prefer. The evaluation is free either way.
03 What does recovery cost?
It depends on the failure. A logical recovery done in our Kingston office is billed as labour, usually one to two hours. A physically damaged drive that needs a clean room is quoted up front before anything is sent, and you approve that price as a deposit. The free evaluation tells you which one you are dealing with before you commit.
04 Can you recover a clicking or physically damaged drive?
Often, yes. A clicking drive usually means a mechanical fault, which needs to be opened in a clean room. We send those to our trusted clean-room partner and manage the job for you. Power the drive off and stop using it. Every time it spins up, a damaged head can do more harm to the platters.
05 Do you recover RAID arrays and server data?
Yes. We handle failed RAID arrays, Synology and QNAP NAS boxes, and Dell, HP and Lenovo servers that will not rebuild, including VMware and Hyper-V volumes. Send every disk from the array, not just the one that failed, because the data is rebuilt at the block level from the full set. Do not run a rebuild or force the array back online first. That can corrupt the parity and make recovery much harder.
06 How long does recovery take?
The diagnostic is often same day. A straightforward logical recovery is usually a day or two. Physically damaged drives take longer and depend on parts and clean-room time. We give you a realistic timeframe at the evaluation, and emergency turnaround is available when you cannot wait.
07 Do you help home users or only businesses?
Both. Most of our recovery work is for Kingston and Eastern Ontario businesses with failed servers, RAID arrays and workstations, but home users are welcome. Family photos, tax records and the only copy of a project all matter, and we treat them that way.
